“I don’t want to look normal, because is too normal”
Punk is not just ripped skinny jeans, leather jackets or dark broody makeup. Punk is a form of self-expression, the freedom of expressing oneself, whether it’s their ideology, fashion, music or lifestyle. It is not just surface level.
Distinct Fall Winter was inspired by 70s punk, it brings a deeper meaning to the designer, inspiring her to present a collection that tells a story of her own.
Bullying and discrimination from past experiences have led to the designer to build up a wall to protect herself, in the form of “punk”.
Bold silhouettes and daring fashion are ways that the designer took in as a defence mechanism against trauma.
However that has attracted a different kind of attention. The unabashed expression of the designer has been interpreted negatively by her family, friends, and the public, whereas the only reason the designer has chosen punk is to put a strong façade.
Being different is not wrong. This collection is to convey the designer’s raw emotions, to those who may feel the same way or faced the same experiences.
